About the Event:
It was a very interactive session with such a nice audience . we GSAs started the session with a Introduction part of the event given by Ashery Mbilinyi (Ex-GSA, Dar es Salaam Insitute of Technology-TANZANIA) , then Manoj Bingi(GSA-IIT Delhi) started the session with a brief Discussion on Google Docs and various Apps like G mail  Talk, Google+ and then ended with a Hand-on Session (Demonstration) .
The Hand-On session was the best part as all the people there done many activities practically on their Systems and learned a lot.

At the End of session when we asked “What is Google? Is it only a search Engine?” then we got such nice answers: “Google is everything”, “1..2…3…Google” , “Google is Everywhere” J
As we moved more closer to our last part of Google Hangout which was handled by Pranshoo Srivastava and Jas Singh Bhasin(GSA-Amity University) ,we've noticed that the audience shown more interest and happiness at the time of Demonstration Session of Hangout when at the same time all 4 of us done a Hangout in class with some Audience by inviting them also to have Experience the Hangout.

Online Photography Contest from 23rd August to 29th September 2013

Online Photography Contest from 23rd Aug to 9th Sep 2013

IGSC (IEC GOOGLE STUDENT COMMUNITY) is organizing an online photography competition. It is an initiative taken under GSA Program (GOOGLE STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM) to help students to showcase their Photography talent. All the photos are to be posted on our official IEC GOOGLE+ Page . This is the first initiation taken under IGSC Program to make a common place to learn Google Technologies and to actively participate in the upcoming activities.

Overall objective of the event:

By this event, we made our participants to upload their pictures on our college G+ page in which they have tagged their friends that actually showed how active they were. So this event led to active participation of students on G+ that had made them to learn Google Technology.

Highlights of success:

The G+ Photography Contest showed real popularity and excitement among the students. This popularity was, firstly, due to the ‘Google ‘tag in the event and secondly because of the passion of Photography in today’s Generation. We received 10 random clicks from our students amongst which some were really
awesome and one of those awesome ones was selected as ‘Winner’ on the basis of likes, tags, +1s on G+.
Winner of Online Photography Contest : Saumya Dwivedi (EEE- 3rd Year, IEC CET)
with maximum +1s and tags weighaege on her Photograph.

  •    This fact is not just a mere statement, it’s an example that we observed that day. Acknowledging our teachers about the relevant Google apps and their uses in field of education was real fun and learning session for us (IGSC team) also. We were well accompanied by 102 teacher from their respective different departments ranging from B.Tech  to MBA including B.Pharma, MCA etc. We started the things smoothly, explaining Google Drive and ended with Google Calendar covering Docs, Spread sheets and Forms in between. Every session was followed by a Demonstration session ending with a query session which at some instances took longer time than the explaining session itself.

    QUERY SESSION:

    ·         As we proceeded the Query session the interest of teachers increased to a certain level  that we was asked to make an attendance system using Google Forms for our department.
    ·         Teachers discussed about the use of apps in academics, like giving us our Assignments questions on Drive with the help of a Simple Link. ( just copy paste the link and share :) )
    ·         We also discussed to mark our sessional Exam dates , Semester Exam dates and Important Dates of the academic Year on Google Calendar and Share with each student through Email , so that each one will get a remainder every time and there will be no confusions regarding dates of submissions.
    ·         We also discussed the importance of Google Forms and spreadsheets in our academics, such that in library, at the time of registrations, especially in Training & Placement cell which will normalize long lines of students standing for registrations etc .
If Google Apps are used then our time, energy and PAPERS will be saved.
    ·     We discussed about online notes Sharing to the students through drive (sharing a folder), and many more things to get implemented in academic level for student – teacher need.

    Query Solving session

    APPFun:

APPFun was an activity session for Teachers where we gave some practical activities.it consist of 3 rounds :
    ·         FAF (FORM-A-FORM)
    ·         QUIKKER-O-TASK
    ·         JO JEETA WAHI SIKANDAR.
Initially we was having 12 teams, from which will be 1st in FAF and QUIKK-O-TASK will qualify for the last round.

    1.       FAF : The activity (making TEACHER SUMMIT FORM using Google forms and sharing it to a common Email) was given to faculty members along with Head Of Departments(HODs) in a particular time boundary and asked them to complete the activity respectively.

    2.       QUIKKER-O-TASK: The 2nd activity (filling TEACHER SUMMIT  REGISTRATION FORM individually  then move the Spreadsheet into a folder ,name it on your team name and then sharing it to a common Email with proper access of can view)was given to faculty members along with HODs in a particular time boundary and asked to complete the activity.

    3.       JO JEETA WAHI SIKANDAR: The best part of the Summit came in when we announced the Quiz Round ‘JO JEETA WAHI SIKANDAR’ .we made two teams (TEAM DROID & TEAM DRIVE), by the time we start the Quiz teams looked more enthusiastic than us to get the questions coming. They all enjoyed the session like  primary standard kids, they raised their hands higher than the opposition team to prove their respective points.

At a moment, we thought the goodies we arranged for the faculties may fell short. But by due help from college management, we arranged to wrapped up the things well enough. In the end, we received a casual but highly anticipated gratitude and thanks from our faculties to which we responded the same way showing our pleasure in the service.

    KEY LEARNING:
Getting interactive with our teachers is always beneficial and this time it was all in bulk. Beings a GSA, supported by my IGSC team, I thought we covered each and every place where Google Apps can easily replace the age old traditional ways of performing academic tasks in our sessions. But our Faculties seriously proved why are called ‘Faculties’. They, first of all, appreciated our attempt of putting up this event and then showed us the new fields where faculties could make students use Google apps. Many new points were appended to the lists of tasks performed by any discussed Google apps by our Faculties itself.
At the end we wrapped up with a vote of thanks for all our teachers and to IGSC team from my side and with a distribution of Google Goodies provided by College funds.
